Dororo is an anime series that was released in 2019 and is an adaptation of the manga series possessing the same name. The anime possesses many deviations from the original source material, and predominantly retains only the essence of the premise that was set by the manga. As with most anime series recently, Dororo gained a lot of traction and there have been multiple speculations surrounding the possibility of the show having a second season.
Containing 24 episodes, the first season followed the journey of a ronin named Hyakkimaru and a young orphaned thief named Dororo (the titular character) as they set out on a quest through Sengoku-era Japan against demons, from whom they aim to recover Hyakkimaru’s stolen body parts. The first season is available to watch online on the popular subscription-based streaming website Amazon Prime Video.
Possibility for a Second Season?
As per reports, the production company for Dororo – Mappa, has not spoken of or hinted towards a possible renewal for the series. There are reports however which state that an English dub of the first season is in the works and would be released sometime within the ongoing year, both in DVD and digital formats. This would help the series reach a wider audience at the least, and increased popularity could potentially push the makers towards renewing the series for a second season.
However, the source material for the series is comparatively short when compared to most manga, thereby not leaving much room for the writers of the show to explore a second season too deeply. Regardless, even if there does happen to arise some confirmation about the probability of the show’s renewal, the production process would tentatively take about a year or more, pushing the release date much ahead.
Potential Plot for Season 2
If the series does end up getting renewed, it would be difficult to put a pin on what the potential plot might be as the first season brought the storyline to closure by altering certain details from the source material. Therefore, the most probable route would be a fresh storyline that does not confine to what was penned down in the manga, leaving the makers with a massive field of views to explore.
