Asteroid of the size 984 feet wide believed to past this Sunday is keeping NASA on it’s heels. Will it be Catastrophic, let’s know more about it.
Asteroid : What is it and Where Do They Come From?
Asteroids are basically gigantic rocks with metallic and other chemicals components embedded in them. In the primitive stage of solar system formation, dust particles collided with each other which transformed into larger clumps called planetesimals. Some attract many dust particles and form a planet and other smaller versions with weak gravitation form asteroids.
During the birth of Jupiter, it’s formation prevented any kind of planetary bodies to be created between itself and Mars creating a gap. It caused other objects to collide and form a belt of asteroids. Due to collisions within the belt, they enter inner solar system and due to Sun’s huge gravitation they come way too close to Earth and become life-threatening for Earthly Beings.
Asteroids : Details about this monster and why is it a threat?
The name of this giant is 3361 Orpheus. This Giant is 3 times bigger than Big Ben in London. Big Ben is around 316 feet and it being 3 times bigger can cause a huge destruction and harm to Earth’s environment. It will also cause of chain event of Natural disasters including earthquakes, tsunamis. and shock waves.
NASA has confirmed that Orpheus 3361 will definitely pass near Earth and estimated that it will pass around 3.5 million miles from the Earth. It is being considering as a threat and a Near-Earth object since it will be passing within 120 million miles radius of Earth.
Another crucial point according to NASA is that Asteroid 3361 Orpheus is coming towards Earth at a terrifying speed of 30 thousand km per hour. It is believed that it might pass Earth on 21st November 2021, that is this Sunday.
Asteroid Orpheus 3361 : What is NASA’s take on this threat?
NASA is keeping a close eye on this rock. But at the same time, NASA says that there is no to be afraid. Being a near-earth object with this much of a ferocious speed is the reason of them bringing this to light.
Currently there are approximately 22 asteroids like Orpheus which are likely to hit the Earth. If there is a slight change in the path of these path with keeping in mind that it will be with a speed of 30 thousand miles per hour can increase the chances of the asteroid hitting Earth and causing a lethal destruction.
Thus, NASA is keeping eyes on such rocks which come near Earth. Major meteor strikes are rare. Earth’s natural defense system will slow or alleviate most of the threat parts. It may crates about 5- 10 km but full destruction of Earth amounts to rarest.
