With a special presentation of the music homage series, Verzuz is continuing to turn out famous mashups during the holiday season. An evening with R&B aristocracy was enjoyed by aunties, cougars, and vintage soul fans. 
Khan and Stephanie Mills went head to head at The Theater at Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles on Thursday night (Nov. 18). The night, hosted by Mahogany from Hallmark, celebrated music’s living legends’ culture, optimism, and harmony. Ciroc drinks were flowing, and the atmosphere was perfect.
In true diva flair, DJ Beverly Bond kicked up the evening with a set. The founder of Black Girls Rock! spun Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature,” Method Man’s “All I Need,” Tribe Called Quest’s “Award Tour,” and Lauryn Hill’s “Lost Ones.” When DJ Scratch took the stage, he announced a war between DJ Ease and DJ Ash B, in which they mash up songs like Stephanie Mills’ “Something Bout the Way You Make Me Feel” with the Dogg Pound’s “Ain’t No Fun,” among other hits.

Apart from being perplexed by the hip hop tribute during the classic Soul Verzuz, commentators like Tony Baker demanded a closer examination of the stage. The cameraman must have gotten the memo since the shot gradually zoomed in and out for 15 minutes. Missy Elliott, who is also the creative director, joked on Instagram that the operator must’ve been on a high dose of Za since she was feeling a little dizzy. “At this point, call Hype Williams, and throw the fish-eyed lens on the camera from “The Rain” video,” she remarked later. Swizz Beatz also chimed in with, “Stop that blasted zooming out shite!” in the comments.
The Divas Grand Entrance
When showtime arrived, the queens walked out hand-in-hand to Alicia Keys’ “That Girl Is On Fire,” dressed in matching red hair and wearing all black. The performance was about to start!
Live Vocals
Although Mills’ first song failed to play, the show must go on! The queen assured us that she could still hold down the vocals from The Wiz’s “Ease on Down the Road” with or without the tune. She did not let us down in the least. The queens commanded the stage and put on an incredible show for us.
Here’s Teddy
Mills nailed down both vocals on “Two Hearts,” her duet with Teddy Pendergrass, replete with light dance to remind us that she’s still got it. She also showed her sisterhood and support by boosting Khan up on her iconic hits.
Diva Behavior
Khan took a bow and thanked her loving fans every time she concluded a song. Diva-like behavior. Mills, too, kicked up her gold pumps and shimmed her hips from left to right in unison with her sister.
